Summer Racing
After the awesomefest that was the Hyde Park Blast and Tour de Grandview, racing has seemed less attractive. However with the Tour picking up in the second week, my interest could be reignited with the Block O crit and Tour d’ Burg (which as you know is revenge race #1 of 2011).
On a positive note, I know have a car. I’ve been using it quite liberally, much to my dismay.
I have been riding quite a bit, with most of it on the mountain bike. While a majority of the rides have been hammerfests around P2 at Alum Creek, Mason, Layne and I found sometime get a gravel road ride in at Scioto Trails. . . a re-con for Frankenbike. It started as a typical hangover ride and ended as any ride on a hot and humid day; over heated, dehydrated and hungry. It seems the gravel roads haven’t been used as much as in the past as there was no sign of tire tracks to push rocks to the side. I suffered two flats. Ran through 2 tubes, one of them being a 26in super inflated to fit my ‘cross wheelset. Mason and I tried our best to our Gilbert each other, it was an even battle on most inclines and made the ride very fun.
Fletcher comes out of retirement
In other big news, local cycling celebrity and the pride of Columbus, Greg Fletcher, has officially announced return to competetitve cycling on a popular weekly mountain bike ride now known as “Tuesday Night Worlds.” Initially hesistant, Fletcher said sitting by the pool and looking at girls has taken its course and that it was time to give “competitive cycling a proper try.” While the ride was cut short after a mechanical by local rider Allan Sommer, Fletcher said his form wasn’t far off.
